Mess on the top floor. Has a TV, Nintendo Switch and plenty of seating. Some reclining chairs, but not the best to sleep on. Cleanliness has been an issue in the mess which is slowly being rectified. There are 4 computers which intermittently work as well as a phone. There is a sink, kettle and coffee machine as well. There is a monthly mess fee of...More
Loads of parking but around a 5-10 minute walk away. Fees info: Staff car parking tariffs from 1 November will be based on a percentage fee of 0.95% of each individual salary banding, with maximum capped fee rates of £780 per annum. Staff who wish to hold a car parking permit, work on a rotational basis, and regularly undertake night shifts will...More
Uses EPIC digital system (locally known as HIVE) for everything.
Free hospital shuttle from MRI, Tram (route to the airport) as well as buses.
Canteen is run by Sodexo and does very carb heavy food. Very little in the way of healthy options. MInimal seating as well. Looking at roughly £5 per meal to eat there. Closes by 2-3pm. Reduced offerings on a weekend. M&S - standard hospital M&S, very pricey. Subway, WHSmith and a Costa (that's not really a Costa). Nothing available overnight ...More
Low socioeconomic area. Unlikely you will spend any extnded period in the area unless you are at work. Perfectly safe to walk from the hospital to the tram - about a 5 minute walk. Most doctors live in the city centre, Didsbury or Altrincham.
The general medicine on call rota is poorly managed and concerns relating to unsafe staffing (and particularly patient safety) are dismissed. That said, the management of the ward rota including annual leave and study leave is excellent. It’s a very unfriendly ward to join. It’s quite clear that the general opinion towards rotating doctors is tha ...More
Toxic hellhole. The rota team go out of your way to bully you and make up outright lies. The senior doctors believe in ‘flattening the hierarchy’ - lovely idea, but unfortunately the hierarchy on this ward is now inverted with HCAs at the top and any poor doctor who has the misfortune to be placed here right at the bottom. They make discharge de ...More
A small service with no ward, mostly focused on clinics and referrals. Have General ID, TB, HBV, ABPA, and CPA clinics. Referrals mostly focused on bacteraemia and endocarditis. It is beneficial that the department is very focused and a national centre on aspergillosis, but the lack of wards and the specificity take away from the general ID experie ...More
Large department with some great opportunities if you get involved. Rota can be tight at times and can be difficult to get to clinic but really good in Parkinson’s and Falls clinics where you get allowed to see patients independently (consultant comes to assess) and do the letters, but you need to drive about 5 miles to Withington get there! Your ...More
Excellent department with a friendly consultant body. Quite an intense rota but the shifts themselves are ok - often manage a couple of hours sleep on nights (you have your own on call room). Can be overstaffed in the day time but lots of teaching opportunities. Would highly recommend.
