Offers usual below par hospital food. Also has a Subway. There is a Costa, small WHSmith and small M&S on site.
Immediate local area isn’t ideal, quite deprived. Need to go a few miles down the road to Twickenham / Richmond for nice bars, cafes, restaurants etc
Toxic department. Always understaffed. Unsupportive. Avoid like the plague!
A genuinely fantastic foundation rotation. Very busy AMU with a high turnover of patients and high bed pressures. This makes you learn a lot about safe medicine and knowing what sort of conditions can be ambulated. I had ED as an F2. Consultants expect you to pull your weight, if you are not seeing enough patients that will let you know. It’s a busy department, only quiet time is 2am - 5am really. I did my F2 year here (F1 at St. Mary’s). I had a good set of jobs including ENT, ED and GP. Really enjoyed all of those, though obviously the ED rota is tough going for 4 months.
I hated working in ED at West Mid. Here are the reasons why: - Seniors. There are several trust grade registrars, whose clinical judgement was questionable, and often just drove the juniors to refer/sort quickly/see the next one.
