The mess is small with a couple of sofas, a table + chairs, a TV and four computers filling up the whole mess. Sometimes drinks would be provided in the fridge, but this was rare. Think about £10 monthly for access, from what I could tell the vast majority of this was used to fund 'drinks behind the bar' at events. Fairly new changing rooms in the ...More
Staff car park - limited spaces but good monthly rate ~ £5 per monthh
Powerchart/cerner for notes/e-prescribing, PACS for images. Overall decent, although some wards struggle with computer availability.
Okay bus links. East ham station is fairly close (via bus) and has district line/hammersmith + city and city/circle cline so theoretically can get to and from A to B but it may not be very convenient unless you live in the right place.
Canteen open till 10pm with for hot food. Alright food, main meal is between £3-6.40 and is usually decent. Otherwise offers sandwiches etc. No good food places around.
Surrounding areas is a college/flats. One frequented pub is about 25 minutes away on foot, other than that expect to get a bus somewhere.
This department is a very toxic environment; some consultants bully junior doctors with prejudice and discrimination, and they use you as a service provider instead of your colleagues and blame juniors whenever there is a chance, not a supportive environment for learning.
Some consultants can be very toxic and they don't care about training and progress of the junior doctors. They think we are service providers and put blame on us whenever there is an opportunity, which is frustrating.
As far as foundation jobs I've heard about Newham was okay. Medical departments + A+E. On the whole both registrars and consultants were broadly nice/good to work with and there isn't a bullying culture or anything like that. My supervisors were all supportive. Admin staff/rota staff were okay but this is mostly placement dependent. I had some un ...More
I've worked in a handful of EDs at this point, and I find that generally there is a belief held within any department that their ED is the busiest, or has the most challenging patients, and that "if you can work here, you can work anywhere". Newham basically heard these departments, chuckled to itself, and said "hold my beer". The sheer volume and ...More
Supportive team and seniors. Short staffing is an issue, but it’s common everywhere nowadays.
