The building and facilities are old and dated. However there is a 24 hour canteen, and a good doctors mess with an active mess committee. There is a good library too which is 24 hours.
Awful. £30 a month to park a 15-minute walk from the hospital (King Power Stadium). The walk to the stadium is through dingy backstreets which in the dark can be concerning at best and dangerous at worst. Car parking staff seem actively antagonistic much of the time. They didn't let me collect my permit before I started so had to pay daily until I ...More
Nerve centre has significantly improved working and is quite functional compared to the dire IT in other local trusts.
Free Hospital hopper to travel between sites (Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General, Glenfield) which runs fairly regularly. Park and Ride is (as of 2022) free for hospital staff, and runs every 10 minutes.
Overnight hot food from the canteen But they are unhealthy, expensive and awful

Mixed bag to be honest. +ve: 1. Interesting case mix, A+E resus, elective GI, plenty of laparotomies, quite a lot of acute liver failure, plenty of opportunities for core ICU procedures 2. Consultants are generally pleasant and happy with WBAs etc. 3. Good camaraderie within the medical team. 4. Regular trust wide ICU teaching. -ves: 1. ...More
Such an awful experience that I seriously considered leaving medicine entirely & in fact gave up entirely on training within 18 months of leaving this **** (ironically completing exams with relative ease whilst earning well as a locum & working more hours than in training). There were many rude anaesthetic consultants with extremely limited medica ...More
The rota: 1/10 (40% is night shifts, but 1/5 weekends) Training pt. 1: 9/10 (consultants & regs keen & great teachers) Training pt. 2: 2/10 (so many on calls you never get to theatre or clinic) Friendliness: 9/10 Research/audit: 8/10 (opportunities if you look, not massive pressure unless you want)
Pros Hospital is well supported in terms of staffing. Especially on calls there are plenty of juniors as well as registrars . IMT training is not bad but can still improve, there is PACES teaching , weekly IMT teaching with self development time. All trainees get 1-2 weeks off every 4 months to attend clinics. Has one system for prescribing meds ...More
Would not recommend IMT at UHL. True training opportunities happen once in a blue moon and not enough to be able to consolidate learning. I feel like a worse doctor than I was at F2 because of all the mindless service provision and burn out. ANPs/PAs get a much better experience and are prioritised for training (Twitter has a lot of examples).
