Recently refurbished to a good standard. A large communal room with fridges, microwaves, dishwasher and plenty of cups/plates/cutlery. Also a few smaller rooms with TVs, access to an outdoor courtyard, recliner sofas, an air hockey table and a small office with computers. Also personal lockers and changing rooms. Also - pizza Fridays!
No longer free for staff. Lots of space but does tend to get full by 9am.
All paper notes and electronic prescribing (except ED which is the other way around). Very much reliant on bleeps.
As the Hospital is in Gorleston not Yarmouth using public transport from Norwich is pretty difficult - having a car or living in the town are the only ways really.
Canteen open (I think) 8-8, M&S open til 8 on weekdays and 6 on weekends. No overnight catering, a few vending machines. Meh
Yarmouth a bit of a dump - most people live in/around Norwich and do the 35-40 minute commute. Deprived area, would recommend live in Norwich
Senior led with patients typically seen by consultant or reg every day. Opportunities to go to theatre even as F1. Generally only F1s on wards, with little senior presence in afternoons - though always contactable by phone. On calls generally okay, but can be busy on weekends.
Time as F1 spent either clerking in new patients, doing the post-take ward round or doing your own ward round on new admissions. Good learning opportunities, with chances to do practical skills and be part of the arrest team. Consultants are supportive, and always a senior around to discuss cases and questions with.
Stroke Medicine Mainly admin/ward jobs, little to no teaching or learning opportunities. Friendly team and nice consultants. Often redeployed to other departments when busy.
Did general medical and surgical jobs as an FY1 here. Overall I would recommend it to another FY1 and say it's kinda what you'd expect. Large and freindly junior doctor cohort, everyone knows each other and spends a lot of time in the mess. Clinically there were good opportunities to get stuck in and do procedures. In terms of consultants there are ...More
Friendly staffs, helpful registrars, a lot of theatre time if you fancy surgery training. That being said, ward management was poor. Many consultants or even registrars were foreign trained, in fact, no consultants were trained in the UK. Most of them had zero knowledge in medicine and they did not trust their junior at all. At times, you will hav ...More
