The Jubilee is a strange hospital. It is a health board all on its own, that provides a peculiar combination of regional and national services. It is the cardiothoracic surgical centre for the West of Scotland, and hosts a number of national services such as heart transplantation. It is the PCI centre for Greater Glasgow. Ample parking at the front (East side) of the hospital. The back (West/hotel side) is notionally reserved for hotel guests, but this is not enforced. There are a number of electric car chargers on site, however these were not working during my rotation. EV chargers are also available at nearby Dalmuir station.
Access provided to the West of Scotland portal, which offers access to notes from across Scotland (this is essential as patient will come from the length and breadth of the country). Notes in the hospital are still paper based, including prescribing. However critical care is paper free on its own system.
Regular rail service to Glasgow, Dunbartonshire and Lanarkshire at nearby Dalmuir station. Regular bus services stop on Dumbarton Road, and there is a limited bus service to Paisley and Greenock over the Erskine Bridge.

This is a completely nonsensical policy, as blue scrubs can be worn in theatre, however it is strictly enforced and you will be loudly instructed to leave the cantee...More
Unless you are a cardiothoracic trainee, you are unlikely to be here for more than a short time. Trainees typically commute to the hospital. The immediate local area has little to offer. It is a fairly deprived area with good access to Glasgow. Permanent staff seem to primarily live in the Bearsden/Milngavie areas, or the West End of Glasgow.
